About AVK College
Arakalagudu Varadarajulu Kanthamma(AVK) College for Women, Hassan Was established in 1966. Ever since its inception, the college has been the leading education centre for women of all sections of society and has served as a pioneer in innovating women’s education. The college has completed nearly five decades of glorious service in education. Our aim is to uplift women’s of the Malnad region. We are moulding our students into emotionally sound, intellectually competent, and socially involved citizens.
 The college was established in September 1966 for providing higher education to the Women students specially who were socially and economically deprived. A.V.Kanthamma College for Women, has been completing 50+ years of services to the cause of higher education for rural students. The college holds the distinction of being the only institution providing higher education in science to the rural and poor students in the surrounding region.
The Motto of the institution is ‘Knowledge and Virtue‘. Accordingly, the college continues to impart higher education to the poor rural students who live in remote area of Hassan. Majority of the students are economically and socially deprived. Along with facilitating the participation of village students in higher education, its efforts are directed at providing holistic education that encourages critical and independent thinking.
The college is a multi-faculty college with Science,Commerce & Arts faculty. At present, the college offers B. Sc. with special subjects and B. A. with special subjects Compulsory English,Political Science, Sociology and History are offered as general courses. The college has adequate infrastructural facilities – class rooms, library, computer laboratory, playground etc. Apart from the regular teaching learning activities, the college strives for the overall development of the rural students by conducting various extra-curricular activities for them. The college has conducted a good number of extension activities to strengthen college neighborhood network. The NSS unit is an asset to the college which allows 200 volunteers. This unit conducts various extension activities to help our students become aware of their social responsibilities. The college has been working sincerely for the betterment of the students. Apart from various government scholarships, the college is attempting to implement Earn & Learn scheme for the poor and needy students.
The college has a well maintained library. During last four years, around 3324 books have been added with latest magazines and journals. The library has been computerized with the latest software i.e. Libsoft. The college has Students Grievance Redressal Cell, Anti Ragging Committee, Students Council, Students Welfare Board, Earn and Learn Scheme, Alumni Association, and Competitive Exam Committee. The teaching staff of the college is well qualified and devoted. Ten staff members possess Ph. D. and many are pursuing Ph. D. The staff is consistently busy in several research activities.

The A.V.K. College Alumni Association is an association of graduates of former students (alumni). Our association often organizes social and cultural events and raises funds for the development of institutions. The association helps and supports alumnae to develop and spread a philanthropic and entrepreneurial mindset among students. It advises and conducts activities that will motivate and upgrade student’s skills. It brings together all the old students and shares their experiences with each other. association to maintain and update the database of all the alumni of the college and to interact with them.
It also utilizes the rich experience of the old students of the college for the benefit and progress of the present students. The association promotes campus placements through the old students working in reputed industries. It gets valuable advice from the alumni on the overall development of the college.
AVK College Alumni Association arranges donations to the poor by way of education and maintains cash for students to borrow or give for their purposes. It gathers a database of employment information and assists the members in securing suitable jobs. It maintains a website and bulletins with valuable information useful to members and students. It involves members and the overall development of the college and society.

College Alumni Association shall serve as a platform to bridge the gap in student-alumni interaction driven by the ideals and values that shall ensure the upliftment of both resentful and future alumni with support to both build social, knowledgeable, and motivational capital for the institution and its students.

To promote the exchange of academic and corporate experience with students of the institution. To mentor and channelize the efforts of the students seeking better opportunities to learn and grow. To promote goodwill and a sense of pride in both alumni and students. To advise and conduct activities to develop and spread a philanthropic and entrepreneurial mindset among the students.
Our objectives
A.V.K. College Alumni Association objectives:
1) To be a vital partner in the success of the institution through the significant engagement of alumni.
2) To provide a platform to all present and future alumni spread in every part of the world, to aspire and promote self-pride achievements, and to collaborate with the institution to bring change in terms of academic, cultural, and professional excellence.
3) To offer programs that foster campus traditions and perpetuate a passion for life-long involvement with the institution.
